Artists learn biz skills to market crafts

Fran Redmon can present or speak to your group on a variety of topics.  She has received training and currently serves as a consultant for the Kentucky Arts Council through the Kentucky Peer Advisory Network (KPAN). View her full KPAN bio here.

ORGANIZATIONAL DEVELOPMENT

Her past experience includes working with state groups focused on the development of artisan based economies who want to develop artisan support services and programming. She has consulted with a local arts council, a festival, state marketing groups, and cultural tourism and trails projects. Most often this takes the form of presenting about the history and development of the Kentucky Crafted Program and the award-winning Kentucky Crafted: The Market, a wholesale-retail event with a long history of marketing Kentucky crafts nationally.

She has experience in the development of several organizations in the craft field.  Fran was a founder and steering committee member of the Craft Organization Development Association (CODA) and twice served as national conference chair. She has been involved in the creation and development of the Kentucky Craft History & Education Association and currently serves as president and marketing committee chair. She has served for many years on the board of the Appalachian Artisan Center, both as vice chair, and program committee chair. She has been an advisor to the Kentucky School of Craft and the program committee for the Kentucky Artisan Center at Berea.

ARTISAN TRAINING

Throughout her career Fran has consulted and assisted artisans in business. In her role as director of the Kentucky Crafted Program, she was directly involved with marketing their work nationally, through Kentucky Crafted: The Market, and to tourism venues in Kentucky. She has presented in group settings, as well as one-on-one consultations.

Most recently, she has presented for the Appalachian Festival, Morehead State University Arts Administration class, and the Kentucky Small Business Development Center's Access to Market workshop series. She is most comfortable presenting on artisan business development, pricing, and marketing.
